Abstract:

On the structural organisation of wall-bounded shear ?ows with inspirations from the attachededdy framework. We present investigations on three di?erent aspects of wall-bounded turbulence and loosely relate our ?ndings to Townsend’s attached eddy hypothesis (AEH). First, we introduce a new formulation for the deviation of the mean velocity pro?le from the log-law in the outer, or `wake’, region of wallbounded ?ows. This formulation is inspired by the observation of uniform momentum zones in the ?ow. Secondly, we analyse the streetwise coherence spectrogram from 2-point measurements with reference near the wall to reveal self-similarity of wall-attached structures, as presumed by the AEH. Finally, we highlight some results on the scaling of structure functions in the energy containing range in wall turbulence. In particular, we demonstrate some degree of universality across di?erent ?ow geometries using the extended self-similarity framework previously derived for inertial-range scalings
