Abstract:

The seminar will cover recent advances on fundamental combustion phenomena under three extreme thermodynamic and fluid dynamic states, namely: (1) chemical kinetics, laminar flame propagation and stabilization, detonation structure, and flammability limits governed by low-temperature chemistry; (2) chemistry, transport, flame structure and flame propagation in high-pressure, supercritical fluids; and (3) facilitated ignition and off-limit burning in flows of intense turbulence. Practical implications of such extreme combustion processes will be discussed.
